THE CASE FOR THE LEVY
WHY YOUR YES VOTE MATTERS
Jefferson Township Local School District (JTLSD) has endured more than its fair share of challenges over the past two decades. From a declining tax base and reduced corporate revenue to plummeting enrollment and academic performance, our district has been in survival mode for far too long.
But today, we're not asking for sympathy; we're asking for partnership.
We are asking you to vote YES on the 1% Earned Income Tax Levy this November 4, 2025.
This 3-year fixed-term levy will generate the critical funding needed to keep Jefferson Township Schools moving forward and it comes with no increase to your property taxes.
What the Levy Covers:
- Salaries and benefits (which make up 84% of our budget)
- Personnel services, transportation, and technology
- Supporting day-to-day operations of the school district
What the Levy DOES NOT Affect:
- Your pension
- Social Security
- Child support
- Disability payments
Why We Need This Now:
- JTLSD has not received new money in 18 years and has only received new funds once (in 2008) in the last 34 years.
- Our staff is already doing more with less: teachers just agreed to a 0% salary increase over the next three years.
- JTLSD has the lowest teacher salary schedule among all 16 school districts in Montgomery County.
- We cannot "cut" our way out of this, we are already operating at bare bones.
- If the levy does not pass, we will be placed in Fiscal Caution by 2027 and in Fiscal Watch or Emergency by 2028.
- Fiscal Emergency means loss of local control. The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) would take over financial decisions, not our locally elected board.
- It took JTLSD 7 years (2004–2011) to recover the last time we were placed under Fiscal Emergency.
Let’s Not Go Backward
This levy is not just about saving programs. It’s about protecting our kids, preserving our independence, and preventing the state from making drastic cuts that impact everyone.
